BREAKING NEWS: Casa Blanca Will Be In Front Of Selectmen On Monday To Request Licenses Required To Open

WILMINGTON, MA — Casa Blanca Mexican Restaurant is getting ready to open in town.

Owner Jorge Vargas is scheduled to be in front of the Wilmington Board of Selectmen this upcoming Monday night with a request for a common victauler license and entertainment license.

(His appearance has been confirmed by town officials after the Town Clerk posted the Selectmen’s meeting agenda to the town’s website on Thursday afternoon. It can be read HERE.)

A common victauler license is required, by state law, for any food service establishment with the capabilities for cooking, preparing, and serving food and which provides seating. A request for such a license typically indicates a restaurant is almost ready to open. Wilmington’s latest restaurant — Tremezzo Pizzeria — for example, was granted its common victauler license on September 9 and opened on September 17.

No opening date for Casa Blanca has been officially announced, but owners will typically discuss those details when they meet with the Selectmen.

It’s been a long 18 months for Casa Blanca, which will fill the vacancy at the former Chili’s site at 207 Main Street, inside the Wilmington Crossing plaza.

Casa Blanca was first in front of the Board of Selectmen back in July 2018, when it successfully secured an alcohol license. (That license has subsequently been renewed twice.)

In September 2018, however, the restaurant’s Andover location was forced to close due to the Merrimack Valley gas explosions. The closure lasted nearly two months and is believed to have contributed to a delay in the opening of the Wilmington location. Based on comments made by the restaurant’s attorney at the July 2018 Selectmen’s Meeting, a Fall 2018 opening was originally expected.

Casa Blanca is a popular local Mexican chain with five locations — Andover, Billerica, North Andover, Haverhill, and Methuen.

The restaurant, which opened its first location in 2006, describes its menu as “full of “amazing authentic Mexican dishes from family recipes that’s prepared fresh daily” and touts itself as featuring “the best Mexican Food and margaritas in the Merrimack Valley.”
