TRANSPARENCY IN ACTION: Town Invites Residents To Follow Its Very Public Budget Process

WILMINGTON, MA — Town Manager Jeff Hull recently announced the Wilmington Finance Committee will begin its extensive review of each town department’s FY21 proposed budgets.

The Committee will hold TEN meetings, all of which are open to the public. For the first time ever, Wilmington Community Television will televise each meeting live, with on-demand viewing available soon after on wctv.org.

Below is the schedule of this year’s slate of Finance Committee Meetings. Each will take place in Room 9 of Town Hall unless indicated otherwise.

Tuesday, January 28, 2020

  • FY 21 Budget Overview; Revenue; General Government, including debt service, unclassified, statutory charges, Insurance accounts and miscellaneous (7pm)

  • Planning & Conservation (7pm)
  • Building Inspector/Board of Appeals (7:30pm)
  • Board of Health (8pm)

Hull also brought to residents’ attention some additional important dates involving this year’s budget process:

  • January 27, 2020: Town Manager to make FY21 Budget Presentation at Selectmen’s Meeting
  • February 7, 2020: Deadline for Petitioned Warrant Articles
  • February 10, 2020: Deadline for Non-Petitioned Zoning Articles From Departments
  • February 14, 2020: Deadline for Non-Petitioned Non-Zoning Articles
  • February 24, 2020: Selectmen will undertake a preliminary review of all the articles
  • March 9, 2020: Selectmen will close & sign the Town Meeting Warrant
  • March 17, 2020: The Finance Committee & Planning Board will hold its Joint Public Hearing on each article
  • April 20, 2020: The Town Meeting warrant will be mailed out to each household. (The warrant will also be posted on the town’s website.)
