SAVE THE DATES: Selectmen Approve 2020 & 2021 Walks, 5Ks & Marathons

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Board of Selectmen recently approved several community events scheduled to take place during Fiscal Year 2021 (July 2020 to June 2021).

Two years ago, the town implemented a new application process for community groups seeking to hold events that require road closures. Groups must now submit an application each fall so that town departments impacted by such events can incorporate the associated costs into their operating budgets for the following fiscal year.

In addition to the Wilmington Fun on the Fourth’s 2nd Annual Firecracker 5K, the following requests for Fiscal Year 2021 were unanimously approved by Selectmen:

  • Wilmington-Tewksbury Chamber of Commerce’s 16th Annual Half Marathon/5K — Sunday, September 27, 2020
  • Sole Sisters Running Club 3rd Annual Winter SOLEstice 5K – Saturday, December 12, 2020
  • Wilmington Little League Opening Day Parade — Saturday, April 17, 2021
  • 15th Annual Wilmington Pan Mass Challenge Kids Bike Ride — Sunday, May 23, 2021

Organizers of the Tony A 5K, Brady Foundation’s Run for 5K/Walk for Wellness, and We’re One Wilmington’s 5K Run For Wilmington/Kim Forte Walk notified the town they do not plan on holding their events in Fiscal Year 2021.

Selectmen also approved the request of We’re One Wilmington to change the date of its 2020 5K Run For Wilmington/Kim Forte Walk from May 3, 2020 to April 26, 2020.

The Wilmington Police Department, Fire Department, Public Works, and Public Buildings reviewed each application and agreed to accommodate the requests.
