5 Things To Do In Wilmington On Sunday, October 27, 2019

WILMINGTON, MA — Below are 5 things to do in Wilmington on Sunday, October 27, 2019:

#1) Wilmington Horribles Parade

The Wilmington Recreation Department is sponsoring the 52nd Annual Horribles Parade. The parade will leave the Public Safety Building at 4:30pm. A fire engine will lead the parade down Church Street to the High School Cafeteria where treats will await all costumed children. In case of inclement weather, participants should go directly to the Wilmington High School Cafeteria. Boys and girls should bring a bag to carry their treats.

#2) Cub Scout Pack 126’s Haunted House

Cub Scout Pack 126 of Wilmington will be presenting its 5th Annual Haunted House from 5pm-7pm at Villanova Hall (126 Middlesex Avenue), located behind St. Thomas. A $2 donation will be collected at the door. This town favorite and Cub Scout tradition will take place immediately after the Horribles Parade. There will be fun for all ages. Rumor has it the Market Basket Ghost will be making an appearance. The event is appropriate for kids in Grades K to 5.

#3) Castleberry Faire & Craft Festival

The crafters are back for the Autumn Castleberry Faire, Arts & Craft Festival taking place on Saturday, October 26, 2019, 10am-5pm and Sunday, October 27, 2019, 10am-4pm, inside Wilmington’s Shriner’s Auditorium (99 Fordham Road).

Over 200 craftspeople will be displaying and selling their American-made works, including holiday decor, pottery, tile, fine jewelry, soy candles, turned wood, soaps, fine art, toys, wildlife and nature photography, ceramics, wearable art, folk art, hair accessories, painted stemware, stained glass, floral arrangements, country wood crafts, knits, ornaments, puzzles, personal care, Victorian wreaths, leather, pet treats and accessories, oil paintings, children’s clothing, clay, decorative slate painting, scarves, ladies apparel, garden decor, holiday wall hangings, sports apparel, calligraphy, lamp shade covers, sheep skin accessories, embroidery, repurposed wind chimes, fleece, custom signs, quilts, doll clothes, table games, cutting boards, cribbage boards, wooden inlay art, upcycled mittens, terrariums, pine cone wreaths, nonfiction, fused glass, etched acrylic sculpture, totes, fragrance, paper crafts, pewter, aromatherapy, landscape photography, watercolor, holiday pendants, soft sculpture, upcycled crafts, chainmail jewelry, gnomes, and more.

Food sampling will be presented with foods like as herbal dips, fudge, marinades, roasted nuts, pickles, jams and jellies, salsas, hot sauces, biscotti, honey, oils, chocolates, wine slush mix, exquisite pastries, hot chocolate, gourmet soups, candy, balsamic vinegars and more.

Adult admission is $7. Children under 14 years of age are free. One admission is good for both days. Parking is free.

#4) Thoreau Lecture At Middlesex Canal Museum

Wilmington residents are invited to the Middlesex Canal Association’s Annual Fall Meeting at 1pm at the Canal Museum (71 Faulkner Street, Billerica).

The Middlesex Canal Association is hosting a free talk by Robert Thorson, the author of The Boatman: Henry David Thoreau’s River Years. His 2018 talk on Thoreau’s river years is on video in the Internet Archive.

This year’s talk will focus on the Concord River, the Billerica dam and Thoreau, timely as the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration wants to remove the dam as a barrier to some fish species.

Dr. Thorson is a professor of geology at the University of Connecticut.
