Below is a message from the Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library:
Dear Library Supporter,
It is great to see so many people enjoying the new outdoor seating area that was funded, in part, by the money raised in the 2017 and 2018 Annual Appeals. I invite you to visit this wonderful new area behind the library with picnic tables, benches, lovely plants, plus wifi!
While the new outdoor seating area provides an opportunity to enjoy nature and appreciate the adjacent wetlands, we are all becoming more concerned about the issues impacting our fragile environment. Wilmington Memorial Library wants to play a role in helping to raise awareness and understanding of environmental issues that will then enable us to take action on a personal and local level. For our 2019 Annual Appeal, we are asking for your financial support to help with this important initiative.
Your funding support will allow the library to purchase resources and offer programs on a variety of environmental topics for all ages beginning spring 2020 through spring 2021. The WML staff also plans to implement Citizen Science, a nationwide program that actively engages people of all ages and skill sets in the collection of scientific data that is used for scientific studies. Libraries that are currently involved in Citizen Science offer toolkits to their patrons to borrow that help document and identify plants, monitor air quality, collect data from streams to analyze water, and more. WML would like to offer similar tools to Wilmington residents and connect them with scientists working on environmental issues.
