Mrs. Dr. Henry Hiller: a Victorian woman with 20th  Century ideas *RR
Monday, October 28, 7 pm
You may have recently heard of Mrs. Hiller when her ghost was rumored to have appeared at a local grocery store. Also known as “The Casket Woman,” for the elaborate caskets that she commissioned for herself and her husband in the late nineteenth century, Mrs. Hiller was a larger than life figure. She cut a wide swath through Wilmington, a small rural town at the time that had little experience with her big city flamboyance. Although her interest in the afterlife, as evidenced by her casket project, is well known, there is much more to the story of her life, both her private and public persona. Harnden Tavern Curator Terry McDermott will share story of Mrs. Hiller and how her influence is felt in Wilmington to this day.
