WILMINGTON, MA — Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand held his first ever Town Hall event with Wilmington High School students on Thursday, October 18, 2019.
For 45 minutes, Brand answered more than a dozen questions from members of the WHS Student Council members and other student leaders, covering a variety of topics, including the likelihood of a future change in start times for Wilmington High and the possible formation of a Wilmington High gymnastics team.
Brand cited his work with a team of more than 50 others in putting together the district’s new Strategic Plan as his greatest achievement during his first 18 months in Wilmington.
When asked to identify the biggest issue facing Wilmington Public Schools, Brand discussed the number of building transitions students make, along with the age, condition and limitations of the town’s six school buildings serving students in PreK-5.
Brand also detailed his background in education, what factors go into deciding whether or not to call off school due to snow, his thoughts on the district’s 1:1 Chromebook initiative, the importance of social emotional learning, and more.
The Town Hall, which was organized by WHS Social Studies Teacher Mike Maloney and supported by Principal Linda Peters, was filmed by Wilmington Community Television, and can be viewed below:
