WILMINGTON, MA — The meeting scheduled for this Monday, September 30, 2019 at 7pm at the Wildwood Early Childhood Center to discuss town and school facility needs HAS BEEN POSTPONED due to the tragic death of a town employee.
“In light of the untimely passing of Joseph Costello while performing his duties as a custodian at the Wilmington High School and in deference to his family, the meeting to discuss the Town/School facilities scheduled for September 30, 2019 at 7:00 pm at the Wildwood School has been postponed,” announced Town Manager Jeff Hull in a statement. “A new date will be scheduled in the near future. This will provide his friends and colleagues, many of whom were planning to participate in the meeting, an opportunity to pay their final respects to a true gentleman.
“After learning of the funeral arrangements for Mr. Costello, I made the decision to postpone Monday’s meeting so that town employees, town officials and members of our community can pay their respects to a man who passed away suddenly while serving our town,” added Board of Selectmen Chair Greg Bendel in a separate statement. “I recognize that we have important town business to conduct at this meeting, but now is the time to mourn the loss of a valued town employee and a beloved member of our community. We will be rescheduling the meeting in the near future. I would like to offer my condolences to the entire Costello family during this very difficult time.”
Costello, a popular life-long resident of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2019. He was a beloved husband, devoted father of three, and loving “bampy” of two.
Costello will be waked on Monday, September 30, 2019, from 4pm to 8pm, at Nichols Funeral Home (187 Middlesex Avenue). On Tuesday, October 1, 2019, family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home at 9am, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Dorothy’s Church (11 Harnden Street) at 10am.
