Below is a press release from the Shawsheen Tech School Committee:
BILLERICA, MA — The Shawsheen Valley Technical High School Committee is currently searching for the next Superintendent of Schools, to begin serving on July 1, 2020. The School Committee welcomes participation in this most important decision by members of the school community and the community-at-large. There are multiple ways in which people can participate in the search process for the next Superintendent.
The School Committee would like to gather input from the community on the qualifications and skills that the next Superintendent will need to be successful in leading the school. Several focus groups will be conducted to gather input from stakeholder groups. A schedule of the focus groups can be found the school website at www.shawsheentech.org. The focus groups will be conducted by the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC). MASC has been retained by the School Committee as its search consultant.
In addition, for those unable to attend the Focus Group, information will be gathered through an online survey conducted by MASC, which can be completed at the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Y5TNRG6. The survey will open until Friday, October 11, 2019.
Lastly, as part of the search process, the School Committee will appoint an advisory Screening Committee to review applications, interview semi-finalists and recommend finalists to the School Committee.
The Screening Committee will be comprised of thirteen (13) individuals representing various groups, including: three (3) faculty members (one from each level: administration, academic and vocation), and five (5) community representatives each of the five member towns and local interests, which may include parents, local businesses or civic representatives, and five (5) School Committee members representing all five member towns.
The important task will require Screening Committee members to commit to the meeting schedule below. It is extremely important interested applicants can commit to all the dates and be present for all the semi-finalist interviews. The meetings are outlined below.
If you are interested in serving on the School Committee, please submit a letter of interest to the School Committee by Friday, November 1, 2019. The selection of Screening Committee members will be announced at the School Committee meeting on November 26, 2019. In your letter, please identify the group that you wish to represent from the categories above and outline your qualifications for the Search Committee. Applicants should have the ability to work as part of a team and have a strong interest in Shawsheen Valley Technical High School. Committee members must commit to keep the proceedings completely confidential.
The Screening Committee will meet on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. with our search consultant, Dorothy Presser, from MASC to receive its charge from the School Committee, receive candidate materials and begin to formulate questions. It will also meet on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 7pm to finalize questions and select semi-finalists.
The semi-finalist interviews will take place on Monday, December 16, 2019 through Thursday, December 19, 2019 in the evenings. The selection of the semi-finalists will occur after the last interview on December 19, 2019.
