SCHOOL COMMITTEE NEWS: Student Enrollment DOWN 35 Students Compared To Last Year

WILMINGTON, MA — At this week’s School Committee, Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand revealed this year’s school enrollment numbers, as of September 6, 2019.

The district’s enrollment is down 35 students from last year, falling from 3,255 to 3,320.

  • Boutwell INCREASED by 2, from 135 to 137
  • Wildwood INCREASED by 12, from 171 to 183
  • Shawsheen DECREASED by 16, from 361 to 344
  • Woburn Street DECREASED by 38, from 419 to 381
  • North DECREASED by 21, from 265 to 244
  • West DECREASED by 3, from 236 to 233
  • Middle School INCREASED by 38, from 781 to 819
  • High School DECREASED by 10, from 830 to 820
  • Out of District Placement INCREASED by 2, from 57 to 59

“This is a first glance effort to provide an overall sense to the committee where enrollment is falling,” said Brand. “We are certainly honing in and watching what the trends are. We’ll again be studying are retention rates from students flowing from middle school to high school.”

The district is in the process of submitting its enrollment numbers to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) by October 1, 2019. Final enrollment numbers will be available in late October or early November following the DESE’s verification process.
