Motorcycle Passenger Loses Leg In Bad Crash On Chestnut Street

WILMINGTON, MA — A woman lost her leg in a motorcycle vs. vehicle crash yesterday afternoon in Wilmington.

According to the Wilmington police log, a white 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe and a green 2016 Harvey Davidson FLSTC motorcycle were involved in a crash around 3:45pm on Chestnut Street, near Hillside Way.

According to scanner reports, the leg was partially amputated as a result of the crash. First responders applied a tourniquet to the passenger’s left leg.

The Fire Department initially requested a medflight to land at the water treatment plant, but the request was cancelled as the medflight was an estimated 25 minutes away. As a result, the passenger was rushed to Lahey Clinic by Burlington Rescue.

Woburn Police assisted with shutting down the street. Tewksbury Police also assisted with a cruiser. The State Police’s reconstruction team was notified and responded. A&S  towed both vehicles.

The identity of the passenger is not expected to be released.

A request for additional information from the Wilmington Police Department is pending.

(NOTE: This story has been updated with additional information. The original report referenced the male motorcyclist — not the female passenger — as having lost part of their leg.)
