WILMINGTON, MA — Kristyn Cohen, of Wilmington, will participate in the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Boston Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sunday, September 22 at DCR North Point Park in Cambridge. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
Cohen’s family was struck with gut-wrenching news in 2013 when they found out her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 53. They spent several years caring for her at home before deciding to put her in a nursing home, and after a five-year battle with Alzheimer’s she passed away.
“I walk in remembrance for my mom and those who have also lost a parent, a sibling, or a grandparent to Alzheimer’s,” said Cohen. “Our family has advocated for Alzheimer’s since my mom’s diagnosis, and to date, we have raised over $125,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.”
“We are grateful to our Walk participants, they are raising the level of awareness in the community and their fundraising dollars fuel our mission,” shared Ryan Vigue, Director of Development at the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter. “People of all ages and abilities that join the Walk find it to be an inspiring and empowering experience. Together, we are working towards our vision of a world without Alzheimer’s disease.”
