WILMINGTON, MA — Below is an announcement from WHS Assistant Principal Christopher Phillips’s blog:
On Saturday October 19, 2019 Wilmington High School will administer the PSAT exam to sophomores and juniors. The PSAT is a practice exam that allows students to prepare for the SAT exam.
All WHS juniors are strongly encouraged to take this exam as they should be taking the SAT exam in Spring 2020; in addition, juniors can be considered for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship, based on performance on the exam. Sophomores are also eligible to take the exam. However, in our experience, those who haven’t taken Honors English or math courses have found the test to be more stressful as they have not yet been introduced to some of the content on the exam.
All students interested in taking the exam must register between August 27th and September 13th with Mrs. Elderd in the School Counseling Office. No late registrations will be accepted. There is a fee for all test takers. The exam fee is $40; payment can be made in cash or a check made out to Wilmington High School. If your student receives free or reduced lunch, he/she may be eligible for a fee waiver. Please contact your student’s school counselor.
On test day students are expected to arrive at WHS (via the Event Entrance) between 7:30-7:45 a.m. Testing is expected to be completed between 11:15-11:45 a.m. Students must stay for the entirety of the test sessions. They cannot leave if they finish early.
In early October all registered students will receive more detailed information regarding test day and accessing score reports that will be released in December.
Any questions about the PSAT exam should be directed to the student’s school counselor.
