Dog That Was Returned To MSPCA Shelter FOUR Times Finds Her Forever Home In Wilmington

WILMINGTON, MA — A very special shelter dog recently found her forever home in Wilmington.

Minnie, a two-year-old Doberman Pinscher-Pit Bull mix, had been adopted and returned to Boston’s MSPCA-Angell shelter a record four times.

“None of us can recall a dog who’s been adopted and returned four times,” said Anna Raffery-Fore, associate director of MSPCA’s Boston adoption center in a July press release. “But we’re not giving up until we find the perfect home for this special dog.”

Minnie was first adopted on February 26, 2019, but returned in March because her soaring energy proved too much for both the humans and resident dog in her new home.  She was adopted again on April 16, 2019 and returned within a week.  A third adoption took place on July 9, 2019 but lasted only two days.  In all of these cases, Minnie was returned mostly because she is too energetic, and she overwhelmed her new adopters.

“Minnie needs a ton of physical and mental stimulation because she’s young, very fit and smart—a wonderful combination of traits for any dog, but it’s those same traits that make her a challenging dog to place,” said Rafferty-Foré.

An unidentified Wilmington family learned of Minnie’s story and came to her rescue, taking her home on August 11, 2019.

“Her new owner reports that Minnie’s confidence is growing every day and she’s meeting other dogs and people during her daily walks in the neighborhood,” according to a MSPCA spokesman. “Minnie’s reputation as a ‘cuddler’ has also been reinforced because, as her adopter says, she gets all of her ‘zoomies’ out in spurts but in between she’s a couch potato who loves to snuggle while watching TV.”

Minnie is enjoying her new large fenced-in yard where she spends many hours sprinting to and from, lounging in the grass, and playing in the sun.
