WILMINGTON, MA — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has announced that mosquito collections taken in the surrounding community of Andover this week have tested positive for the EEE virus.
“While the samples were found in Andover, it is important to remember that activities at dawn and dusk should always warrant extra bug spray containing deet,” explains Wilmington Health Director Shelly Newhouse. “Central Mass Mosquito Control will continue to spray and larvacide in Wilmington as they have been doing all season.”
Residents are asked to continue to take precautions to minimize opportunities of being bitten by mosquitos by using mosquito repellent, wear appropriate clothing and/or minimizing activity during the early evening and early morning hours.
No virus positive mosquito pools have been found in the Town of Wilmington to date.
