WILMINGTON, MA — Francis J. Zizis, age 94, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on June 10, 2019.
Francis grew up in Norwood. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Army Engineering Corps. and proudly served in WWII.
He worked as a truck driver delivering mail from South Boston to post offices on the South Shore. He then went to work as a forklift operator at Quincy Market Cold Storage from where he retired in 1986.
Francis built his home in Wilmington in 1962, where he has resided since. In his younger years, Frank enjoyed fishing, family vacations and spending time with family at his sister’s cottage in Kingston.
He later enjoyed his three grandchildren each of whom lived with him for a period of their early childhood. He hosted many family gatherings and pool parties over the years. Following retirement, Frank enjoyed long walks around town with his companion dogs – first Seth and then Maggie. He could often be seen relaxing on his porch in good weather.
Frank was the devoted father of Eric Zizis & his wife Romelyn of Wilmington and Mark Zizis of Shoreham, VT, loving “Grampy” of Joshua, Jeremiah and Tèa, cherished son of the late Dominic and Mary (Smoolktees) Zizis, dear brother of Lena Leston, Dolly Devine, the late Nellie Pierce and Margaret Dulak, uncle of Diane Settipane, Paula Rollins, Nancy Hernandez, Kathy Childers, Karen Devine, Gerry Liston, Mike Devine and Theodore “Butch” Pierce. Frank is also survived by his former spouse and friend, Maryellen (Stewart) Zizis of NH, his daughter-in-law Lorie Mackey of VT, his large, extended Stewart family, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, August 10th at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Frank’s name can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
