WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Recreation Department recently held its 37th Annual Fishing Derby at Silver Lake on Saturday, June 1, 2019.
This multigenerational event for youth and non-professional adults began in 1983. The Derby allows the Town to showcase its finest natural resource while participants have a chance to learn or improve their fishing skills.
To add some excitement, participants competed with each other for prizes.
Jackson Kenney won in both kids’ categories — a 15.2 oz. bass and a 12.5 oz. pickerel (non-bass category).
Sherry Simmons won the Adult Largest Fish category with a 14.8 oz. bass.
Experienced and novice anglers alike had a great time at this shore-fishing event.
An event of this magnitude would not be possible without the considerable effort of all involved and the Recreation Department offers them its sincere thanks.
