WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a recent Wilmington Little League game summary:
AAA: Astros vs. Cardinals on Sunday, June 2 at Rotary Park
The Cardinals built on their first win of the season to deliver a strong performance against the first place Astros, led by solid pitching performances from Nathan Murphy, Nick Maninos, Masen Voner, and Griffin Kelley. Tommy Demers, Parker Canevari, and James Savoie powered an impressive offensive attack while Sean O’Brien, Joey Fallis, Griffin Crowe, and Frankie Cain helped keep things close by providing great defense in the field. The Astros again mixed some great performances on the mound, in the field, and at the plate to survive a Cardinals team that gave them everything they could handle. Starting pitcher Patrick Moriarty whiffed five in two-plus innings and made a nice stop on a sharp grounder, throwing to Dylan Costantiello at first for an out. Owen Wills then came on to fan two, closing out the third. Kevin Pruslin made his season pitching debut, striking out three in the last inning to close out the game. Wills lead the offense going three-for-three with two singles and a double while Andrew Santo chipped in two singles of his own. Costantiello and Cael Considine added hits as well. The Astros again showed patience and keen batting eyes as Aidan Raposa, Connor Jamieson, Jake Gryglik, Kyle Price, Joey Fennelly, and John Roofe were among those earning walks. Raposa, Moriarty, Considine, Roofe, and Santo found the plate twice each while several scored solo runs. In addition to Moriarty’s ground ball snag on the mound in the first, there were several other good plays in the field by Pruslin, Costantiello, Roofe, and Santo to name a few. These two teams were rained out every time they were scheduled to play this spring and will meet again to close out the regular season with their final makeup game coming right up.
