WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Varsity Softball team (13-5) defeated Newburyport by a score of 15-3 on Monday, May 27, 2019. The game was called after six innings.
The Wildcats scored in every inning. Wilmington jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. In the first inning, Ryan Bailey had a 2-RBI single plating Jenna Sweeney and Ashley Crawford, who had reached base on a base on balls and a hit batter respectively. A series of wild pitches and passed balls led to Bailey and Kayla Burrell (walk) rounding out the scoring in the inning.
In the second inning, Wilmington had singles from Jenna Sweeney, Ryan Bailey, and Kayla Burrell sandwiched around walks to Kacie Bourrell and Ally Moran to go up 7-0. The Wildcats were quickly on the way to a one-sided victory.
Jenna Sweeney reached base 4 times going 2-3 with a triple and scoring 3 times. She also had an RBI. Ryan Bailey also reached base 4 times going 2-4 with 3 RBI’s.
Ally Moran was again a force on the mound striking out 11 and not allowing a walk in this shortened game.
