WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a list of FREE upcoming programs for adults, teens and kids at the Wilmington Memorial Library.

Registration begins 30 days prior to the event. Please register online using our Calendar of Events at www.wilmlibrary.org or by calling (978) 694-2099 (for Adult) or (978) 694-2098 (for Children/Teen). Adult Events

Fiction Critique Group *RR
Saturday, June 1, 9:15 11:30 am

Love writing fiction? Whether you are drafting a short story or a novel, joining our Critique Group is a great opportunity to meet other writers and get constructive feedback in a supportive environment. When registering, please provide your email address so you can receive an agenda and any prep materials before the meeting. Open to all experience levels writing in all genres. Led by local writing enthusiast, Barbara Alevras.

Pleasure Island Memories *RR
Monday, June 3, 2:30 pm
Bob McLaughlin, founder of the Friends of Pleasure Island, will talk about the history of the theme park known as “Disneyland East”. Pleasure Island, located in Wakefield, operated from 1959-1969 and drew thousands of visitors each year.  Learn about this former summer attraction; bring your memories and your photos.

Cookin’ the Books *RR
Tuesday, June 4, 12 pm
Instead of using a formal cookbook this month, bring in one of your favorite family recipes or choose one from your most used/favorite cookbook. Please bring copies of the recipe/cookbook, and be ready to talk about why it is your favorite!

Alternatives to Cable *RR
Wednesday, June 5, 7 pm
Are you tired of having 100s of channels but not finding anything good to watch? Join technology librarian, Brad McKenna, as he presents alternatives to cable such as Netflix and the library. While not all are free, the alternatives will save you quite a bit of money every month.

Author Talk — Bruce Robert Coffin *RR
Thursday, June 6, 7 pm

Bruce Robert Coffin is the bestselling author of the Detective Byron mystery series and a former detective sergeant with more than twenty-seven years in law enforcement. At the time of his retirement from the Portland, Maine police department, he supervised all homicide and violent crime investigations for Maine’s largest city. Following the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 Bruce spent four years investigating counter-terrorism cases for FBI, earning the Director’s Award, the highest award a non-agent can receive.  His most recent book is Beyond the Truth. Stories and Sweets
Saturday, June 1, 10:30
Start your Saturday morning with great stories (and songs and rhymes) and a few sweet treats at this special family storytime. Ages 2-5 and one or more adults.

Kids Kraft: Painted Rocks *RR
Saturday, June 8, 2 pm
Create your own unique rock, it can be anything you want it to be! This craft is led by 3 Wilmington High School students.  Grades 1-5

 Library News

Town Wide Yard Sale
Saturday, June 8, 8 am – 2pm
Each of the last four years over 60 Wilmington households held yard sales and many hundreds of shoppers found bargains at the Town Wide Yard Sale – don’t be left out! For those wishing to hold a yard sale at their home, the application fee is $15 (deadline is Saturday, June 1). The fee includes yard sale signs and lots of publicity. For shoppers, maps of yard sale locations will be available at the library and at Market Basket starting Wednesday, June 5.

 Lowell Spinners Pass
The Lowell Spinners are a Minor League Baseball team affiliated with the Boston Red Sox. The season typically starts in June and ends in September. Hometown games are played at LeLacheur Park, situated on the banks of the Merrimac River in Lowell, MA. The library pass allows the purchase of up to 6 tickets at 50% off the regular price. 

The Library and Farmer Dave
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

For the past several years the Wilmington Memorial Library, and Farmer Dave’s, a sustainable farm in Dracut, MA, have teamed up to bring locally-grown, fresh fruits and vegetables to Wilmington with a Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Consumers pay for shares of the harvest up front, and in return receive freshly-harvested produce for 20 weeks, from mid-June through late October. Shares are ready for pick-up Thursday afternoons from 3 pm- 6 pm at the library.  For more information and pricing, please visit Farmer Dave’s website (farmerdaves.net) or stop by the library.
