WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Varsity Softball team (7-4) defeated Melrose by a score of 1-0 on Monday, May 13, 2019.
After suffering a heartbreaking come from behind loss to Whittier Tech on Mother’s Day, the Wildcats got back in the winning column against Melrose.
The bats were silent for both teams for most of the game due to great pitching and defense.
Finally, in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs, Ally Moran singled and got to third base on an errant throw. Clean up hitter Bella Kieran got the game’s lone RBI of the with a single to center.
Gianna Brunetto (2-2) and Ally Moran (2-3) led the offense. Catcher Ashley Crawford threw out a runner trying to steal. Moran had 14 strikeouts and gave up only two hits.
“We did a better job today than we did vs Whittier,” said coach Audrey Cabral, “but we still have some work to do on our hitting.”
