Julie Broussard & Tom Talbot Say Farewell To The Wilmington School Committee

WILMINGTON, MA — School Committee members Julie Broussard (2013-2019) and Tom Talbot (2016-2019) said farewell to their colleagues at the board’s April 24 meeting. Both chose not to seek re-election in this year’s Town Election, held on April 27.

“The past three years have been very enlightening and educational for me in seeing what goes into running a school system,” said Tom Talbot. “I have a much greater appreciation for all the hard work they do. I feel very lucky to have been a part of this process.”

“I want to thank the wonderful past and present Wilmington School Committee members  for donating their time for such an important role for the Town of Wilmington,” continued Talbot. “I’d also like to personally thank Dr. Brand for his strong leadership, Asst. Superintendent Reagan for all his hard work, and Asst. Superintendent Ruggiero, for which there are no words for how vital you’ve been during my term. You’ve done amazing things to keep everything running smoothly and I know you will continue to do so going forward. I’d also like to thank the amazing support staff of the Roman House.”

Talbot also thanked the principals and teachers of Wilmington Public Schools.

“I’m so proud to say I live in this community. A community that goes the extra mile to make sure their kids get the best education possible,” concluded Talbot.

Talbot wished the committee’s incoming members — Jesse Fennelly and Jay Samaha — well as they begin their terms.

“Like Tom, tonight is my last meeting,” said Chair Julie Broussard. “I just want to say that it’s been an honor and privilege to serve the children and families of Wilmington. I truly mean that.” When I first campaigned, my Ally was a fourth grader at the West. Now we’re looking at colleges… It’s been a long road. We’ve certainly experienced a lot as a committee. Some committees never see the things we’ve seen.

“I’m very happy with the place that we’re in and I feel Tom and I are turning over the reigns to an excellent group of people who will take our district in the right direction. Thank you for the opportunity,” concluded Broussard.

Vice Chair Jennifer Bryson read a poem titled “Goodbye Julie and Tom,” inspired by Dr. Seuss’s “Oh The Places You Will Go,” and presented each with a plaque.

“Thank you both for your incredible work, dedication and commitment to the Town of Wilmington,” said Bryson. “Tonight is bittersweet, but mostly bitter. Thank you for your  leadership. If people only knew the amount of hours that go into this position beyond the meetings… You both will be greatly missed.”

Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand tweeted out the following after the meeting:
