BREAKING NEWS: Jomarie O’Mahony Enters Board Of Selectmen’s Race

WILMINGTON, MA — In an unexpected move, well-known Wilmington resident Jomarie O’Mahony pulled nomination papers this morning to run for Selectmen. O’Mahony is hoping to replace Ed Loud, who is resigning from the Board next month due to work and travel obligations. Loud’s seat — with one year left on his unexpired team — will be up for grabs during the Town Election.

Jomarie O’Mahony’s involvement in the Wilmington community runs deep. She is the Founder and President of We’re One Wilmington. O’Mahony is a member of the Wilmington Housing Authority, appointed by Governor Charlie Baker. She is the Vice President of the Greater Lowell Children’s Fund. O’Mahony serves on the Board of Directors at Wilmington Community Television. She is an active volunteer with the Wilmington-based iPods for Wounded Veterans and Save One Soul Animal Rescue League. O’Mahony also teaches 9th and 10th Grade CCD at St. Thomas.

O’Mahony is the past president of the Wilmington Educational Foundation. She served on the Wilmington High School 4.0 Campaign Committee. O’Mahony has been an active volunteer with numerous youth sports organizations in town. She received the “Wilmington Good Guy” Award in 2011 for her volunteerism in the community.  O’Mahony also received the Massachusetts Unsung Heroine Award, from the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, in 2016, after being nominated by State Senator Bruce Tarr.

A long-time lawyer and business owner, O’Mahony works for the Department of Children and Families. She is married with four children, all of whom attend Wilmington Public Schools.

In a separate Selectmen’s race, incumbents Greg Bendel and Kevin Caira are seeking re-election to full three-year terms.

To get on the ballot, nomination papers, with at least 50 valid signatures from Wilmington voters, are due back to the Town Clerk by Friday, March 8.

The Annual Town Election will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019.  Polls will be open from 8am to 8pm.
