WOBURN, MA — According to reports in the Boston Globe and 7 News Boston, Somerville Police Detective Paul Duffy, of Wilmington, was arrested by Wilmington Police on Friday morning around 5am for allegedly assaulting a family member.
Duffy, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, pled not guilty to two assault charges at his arraignment in Woburn District Court on Friday. A spokesperson for the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said Duffy appeared to be intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
Duffy is due back in court this coming week. Wilmington Apple will update this story when more details emerge. The Police, Court, and DA’s Office have been contacted for additional information.

“Paul Duffy was arraigned in Woburn District Court on assault on a household member and assault,” a spokesperson for the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office tells Wilmington Apple. “He was released on personal recognizance and ordered to undergo mental health and substance abuse evaluation, plus no drugs, no alcohol, random screenings, and he must have no contact and stay away from the victim.”
