WILMINGTON, MA — Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Saturday, June 9, 2018.
Boys Grade 2 Games
DC United vs. New England Revolution:
Proving they were also World Cup Competitors Robbie Demedeiros, Garrett Lanagan, Chase Daly, Jake Gryglik and Ryan Hudd scored for the DC United in this hard fought game. Adam Ientile, Connor Jamieson and Chase Daly added the offensive punch and Ryan Fitzgerald and Jacob Afthim held up the defense. It was an outstanding team effort capped off with great goal keeping by Connor Jamieson, Adam Ientile, Jacob Afthim and Ryan Fitzgerald.
Columbus Crew vs. New York Red Bulls:
The home team Columbus Crew closed out the season on a high note, putting on a show for the fans. Attacking from the opening kickoff, forwards Griffin Crowe, Scott Anderson and Marcus Dawson led the charge, with Andrew Lipsanopoulos and Felipe Nascimento each finding the back of the net multiple times. The midfield play of Brendan Cohen and Bijon Pourshadi kept constant pressure on the opposition. The defense was solidified by the perfectly-timed challenges of Tristan DeHart and Christopher Cali. In goal, Nathan DiSchino and Matthew Lawler made fantastic saves, repeatedly bringing the crowd to its feet. Daniel Finn started strong but had to leave the game due to illness.
Girls Grade 2 Games
Houston Dash vs. NC Courage:
The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game. The Houston Dash, led by Caitlin McDonough and Lily Mehr, got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Emma Allard led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Abigail O’Donoghue and Molly Kenney kept the action going. The outstanding goaltending of Olivia Long and Josie O’Mahony was the stuff of legend.
Boys Grade 1 Games
Columbus Crew vs. Houston Dynamo:
The Houston Dynamo would not back down from this back and forth match. A goal by Benjamin Salvas brought the crowd to a frenzy. A spectacular display of defensive skills was shown by Braedon Foley, Michael Defilippo, and Tony Lanzi. In addition, the midfield play of John Hanson and Nate Lawrence kept constant pressure on the opponent’s net.
Girls Grade 1 Games
NC Courage vs. FC Kansas City:
The air was full of excitement, as the much-anticipated match between NC Courage and FC Kansas City commenced. Fantastic ball skill were displayed by Olivia Howie and Isabella DeOliveira resulting in goals by Emily Falk and Allaina Holman. The midfield and defensive play of Alaina Roykept the NC Courage in excellent shape. The crowd roared to their feet when Mackenzie Caseymade some spectacular saves.
Portland Thorns vs. Houston Dash:
The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game. The Portland Thorns led by Lily Korpal and Jalyn Redmond got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Kaylee Chan, Mikayla Field, Marley White, and Julia Zaya led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Callie Lamarche and Kelli Tkachuk kept the action going.
Boys Kinder Games
Philadelphia Union vs. DC United:
Nobody stayed home for this action packed last game of the season! The Philadelphia Union’s fearless Rowan Norton and determined Declan Riley scored, with the support of the mighty Brody Aprile, who helped set up the scoring action. The crowd was blown away by the outstanding offense of the powerful Mikey Doucette and the determined Maxwell Madore, who kept the pressure on during the entire game. The flawless defense of Andrew Power provided great protection of the goal, while the swift defensive actions of Charlie Kennedy and fancy footwork Connor Mangini kept the the ball moving going throughout this hard-fought game.
Colorado Rapids vs. San Jose Earthquakes:
In what could have been confused as a World Cup Match, the Colorado Rapids started off strong with great offensive pressure that resulted in awe-inspiring goals by Maxwell Andrew, Bryce Hunter, Max Brugel, Gavin Marinho, and Julian Escobar. Coupled with the steel-like defense of Jack Fennelly, Shourya Kodali, and Lucas Lisek, their efforts made for an incredible game. It was an amazing team effort with each player showcasing their skills like seasoned superstars.
