WILMINGTON, MA — Below are two recent Wilmington Little League game summaries:
AAA: Astroys Beat Rays, 16-12, on May 20 at Boutwell Field
It was another game where everyone got on base for the Astros. Joe Gronemeyer had a big game with a single and two doubles, scoring twice. Joe Fennelly singled three times and scored while Evan Cummings ripped another single. Ethan Afthim walked and scored while Tim Watson singled three times and walked while scoring FOUR runs. Ronnan Scafiddi ripped the ball all day with two singles and a double, scoring twice while John Roofe singled and scored himself. Kevin Pruslin walked and scored in a big second inning and Kyle McDonald singled and scored as well. Luke Kitanov walked twice and singled, scoring twice. Not to be overshadowed by the offense, the Astros’ pitchers had some great performances as well. Gronemeyer struck out three and Watson struck out five. Evan Cummings struck out three in one inning in his debut pitching performance. Watson snared another line drive while Roofe had a good defensive game as well. For the Rays, Kenny Bradley made his first start of the season. Alan Vincente was to 2 for 2 with a triple. Braedon Almas was two for two with two RBIs. Gus Lambert also went two for two with two RBIs. The Rays team as a whole played well, but came up short against the Astros.
Rookie League: Braves vs. Giants
The Giants and Braves played a highly anticipated rematch that had been postponed by rain, but it was worth the wait. The Braves did their best to keep the Giants from scoring with some great defense by Ben Sawyer, Bart Zaino and Stephen Zella, while Cameron Jaynes was solid at catcher. When up at bat, the Braves were paced by key hits from Jacob Andrade-Silva and Michael Duffy.
