LIBRARY LINEUP: Library Pet Show On May 2; Fishing Lecture On May 3

WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a list of FREE upcoming programs for adults, teens and kids at the Wilmington Memorial Library.

Registration begins 30 days prior to the event. Please register online using our Calendar of Events at www.wilmlibrary.org or by calling (978) 694-2099 (for Adult) or (978) 694-2098 (for Children/Teen). Please note we request registration for programs that are marked *RR. Thank you to the Friends of the Library for funding support for library programs!

Adult Events

Cookin’ the Books *
Tuesday, May 1, 12 pm
Featured Cookbook: Smitten Kitchen Every Day by Deb Perelman
If you love to cook and enjoy talking about food and sharing recipes, then this group is for you. Pick up a copy of the cookbook (or find a recipe from the book online). Bring your dish to the meeting and enjoy sampling everyone’s dishes! Please register.

iOS (iPad and iPhone) Tips*
Wednesday, May 2, 7 pm
Bring your iPad and get guided hands-on experience. Such topics as connecting to a new wireless network, what different gestures do, downloading apps, and borrowing e-books will be covered. Taught by Technology Librarian, Brad McKenna.

Cod, Haddock, and Bottom Fishing*
Thursday, May 3, 7 pm
Guide and Outdoor Writer Allan Butler will cover everything from rods to reels, tackle and the electronics needed. Whether you have a small (even a kayak) or large boat, he will help you find and land more fish while having fun doing it. Join us for this entertaining and informative presentation that will cover techniques and the best areas to fish for the expert or novice fisherman.

Pints + Pages Book Group*

Featured book: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Location: Panera Bread, Wilmington
A social book group geared towards readers in their 20’s and 30’s. The group meets on the first Thursday of every other month. Librarians from the Wilmington and Reading Public Libraries host the book discussion

Fiction Critique Group*

Love writing fiction? Whether you are drafting a short story or a novel, joining our Critique Group is a great opportunity to meet other writers and get constructive feedback in a supportive environment. When registering, please provide your email address so you can receive an agenda and any prep materials before the meeting. Open to all experience levels writing in all genres. Led by local writing enthusiast, Barbara Alevras.

Adding Years to Your Life *RR
Monday, May 7, 2:30 pm
Paula Koppel, a registered nurse and geriatric nurse practitioner for over 25 years, presents the latest research on the physiology of aging and longevity enhancement by exploring four areas of the world where people live the longest. Learn how specific lifestyle changes can biologically slow down the aging process. This program is particularly important for folks ages 50-75 when investments in health and wellbeing promote significant improvements in longevity and quality of life.

Teen Trivia Night *RR
Tuesday, May 1, 6:30 pm
Show off your smarts at pub-style trivia! Play against your friends, putting your pop culture knowledge to the test. The winning team walks off with prizes (and bragging rights!). Snacks provided. Grades 6-12

Kindergarten Book Club: Pet Stories *RR
Wednesday, May 2, 3:45 pm
We will read books about pets and then do a fun project.

Library Pet Show
Wednesday, May 2, 6:30 pm
Families and their pets of all types and sizes are welcome to join us for a pet show! Pet owners and their four-legged friends will walk down our runway, show off a trick, or just enjoy the company of other pet owners. A staff photographer will be on hand to take a photo of you and your pet. Anyone is welcome to attend this fun event, but pet show participants should sign up at the library by April 27. Ages 3+
