STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Wilmington’s Amanda Richards Earns National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s Academic Honors

WORCESTER, MA  — Amanda Richards, of Wilmington, has been honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).

12 WPI student-athletes were recognized for academics by the NFHCA. The team, meanwhile, was honored for the 13th consecutive year.

Seniors Sabrina Guzzi and Izzy Garver earned their fourth NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad selection while Guzzi was also named as a repeat Scholar of Distinction. They were joined by classmate Amanda Richards with her third nod. Zoe Schwartz paced the junior class with a third honor while Karen Mushrall collected her second. Sophomores Hannah Larochelle and Suzy Opalka were a perfect 2-for-2 as Carly Cidado and Emily Wilson were named for the first time. Rookie honorees included Emma Bennett, Abby O’Sullivan and Julia Vanderstreet. Bennett was also named a Scholar of Distinction.

The Division III Scholars of Distinction program recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year while the National Academic Squad program recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. The Division III National Academic Team Award, meanwhile, recognizes those programs that earned a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the Fall Semester of the 2017-18 academic year.
