Mike Champoux Honored By Chamber Of Commerce With 2018 Carmon Cunningham Business Legacy Award

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington/Tewksbury Chamber of Commerce, at its Annual Meeting on Thursday, March 22nd awarded the Carmon Cunningham Business Legacy Award to Mike Champoux.

Cindy Wurderman, business owner and close friend of Carmon’s, presented Champoux with the award.

“Throughout the Wilmington business community, Mike is thought of as a ‘connector,’ always working to build relationships, increase business and celebrate the successes of those around him,” said Wurderman.

Wurderman listed many of Champoux’s contributions to the local business scene and Wilmington community, including:

  • Past President, 9 year member of the Chamber of Commerce
  • Past President, longtime member of Wilmington BNI (Business Network
    International)
  • Past President, 19 year member of Wilmington Knights of Columbus
  • Twice Chairperson, 9 year member of the Wilmington Board of Selectmen
  • Member of Wilmington Rotary
  • Member of ‘We’re One Wilmington’
  • Lector at St. Thomas Church
  • Past Soccer Coach for both his son and daughter

Nominations were solicited from the local business community.

“[Mike] is a true relationship sales executive, always going the extra mile, his customer base is built on referral after referral due to his easy-going nature, creative mind and number one objective of pleasing his client,” said one business colleague.

“I can tell you he’s one the most honest, fair-minded person with integrity that I’ve ever met,” another nominator wrote.

About The Award

Before his untimely passing in 2016, Carmon Cunningham was the owner of the successful Cleaner Spot Dry Cleaners and Tailor at Wilmington Crossing. Carmon had been a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors for five years, serving as the President in 2013 and 2014. Carmon was also very involved in a host of community and business organizations and charitable endeavors.  He very well liked and respected by all he interacted with.

The Carmon Cunningham Business Legacy Award is presented each year at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting to an individual who (1) has achieved exceptional business success in his/her lifetime and (2) inspires, is innovative and makes an impact in Wilmington and Tewksbury communities, leaving a legacy of community and economic vitality for generations to come.

The award is given to a Chamber member who embodies similar characteristics of the late Carmon Cunningham. Therefore, the recipient must be encouraging, supportive, maintain a positive attitude and cheerful disposition, while bringing life and energy to the community.  The recipient must also have an incredible work ethic and provide a positive atmosphere in the workplace.
