WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington High School sophomore Evelyn “Evy” Miller-Nuzzo was recently accepted into Global Leadership Adventures.
“This is a program very similar to the Peace Corps, but for teenagers,” said Evy. “I’m very excited that I was accepted to volunteer for two weeks this summer in Costa Rica!”
Evy will be participating in the Empowering Rainforest Communities program, where she’ll be helping the small settlement of Rancho Quemado with community refurbishment projects.
“I’ll be encountering and working on issues like sustainable tourism, community development, and conservation in the face of global climate change,” explained Evy. “This opportunity allows me to make a difference while experiencing an entirely new culture. I truly could not be more excited.”
Evy has begun fundraising to cover the cost of her trip this August. She’s created a GoFundMe page so family, friends, and generous strangers can contribute to help her help others.
“The cost isn’t small. Between the initial cost of the trip, application fees, airfare, and cost of travel documents, I have a lot of fundraising ahead of me.”
