WILMINGTON, MA — William MacKinnon of Southwick, MA, formerly of Wilmington, MA, passed away at his residence on Saturday December 16, 2017.
Bill and his wife, Marilyn, lived most of their married life in Wilmington, MA before moving to The American Inn retirement community in 2009. Bill graduated from Reading High School in 1953 and from Bates College in Lewiston, ME in 1958. He and Marilyn married in June 1958 and were to celebrate 60 years marriage in 2018. After serving 6 months active duty, with the Army Reserves, Bill went to Boston to work for a number of different banking institutions as a member of the Trust Department for over 40 years.
Bill was very active in Wilmington town government serving on many committee & boards: Planning board, Conservation Committee, and Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Wilmington Company of Minutemen serving, at one time, as Captain.
Besides his wife, Bill leaves behind three children: Robert of Lowell MA (Karen), Jean Lane of Southwick, MA (Michael), and Pamela Carey of Glastonbury, CT (Christopher). He also leaves 6 grandchildren: Bill MacKinnon of Quincy, MA, Rebeccah MacKinnon of Coralsville, IA, Shannon Lane, Daniel Lane, Michaila Carey, and Patrick Carey. He also leaves a brother, Kenneth MacKinnon of Leesburg, FL (Patricia). Bill was the son of the late William D. Sr. and Beatrice (Lambotte) MacKinnon.
Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Friday, December 22nd from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Bill’s Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 23rd at 10:00 a.m. in the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 87 Church St., Wilmington, MA. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
