WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a round-up of what’s going on in Wilmington on Saturday, December 9, 2017:
Happening Today:
Weather: Snow likely, mainly after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 32. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. On Saturday night: Snow, mainly before 3am. Low around 27. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
Traffic Advisory: Butters Row Bridge will be closed through at least December 13. The MassDOT are repairing damaged bridge timber deck planks and timber stringers. Work will take place daily from 7am to 7pm. Detour routes are posted HERE.
Yardwaste: The Town’s Recycling Center (Old Main Street) is open from 9am to 4pm for leaf and brush drop-off. This is the final opening of the season. [Read more HERE.]
In The Community: Santa is coming to Town! On Saturday, December 9, Santa will once again be visiting Wilmington. Santa will be making 4 stops this year. At each stop, children will be able to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Feel free to take photos!
Santa’s helpers will be collecting toys for Toys For Wilmington Children again this year.
Santa’s helpers will also be collecting food for the Wilmington Food Pantry to give the opportunity for those less fortunate an opportunity to feed their families.
Santa’s helpers will again be collecting letters for the troops. A table will be set up at each stop to give people the opportunity to write letters.
Santa will be stopping at the following locations:
- 9:30am — Shawsheen Elementary School
- 11:00am — Woburn Street Elementary School
- 12:45pm — North Intermediate School
- 2:15pm — Town Hall
Santa and his volunteers will be staying at each stop for 30 minutes. In between these times, Santa will be traveling around town. Feel free to wave hi as the big guy goes by.
Santa will travel through some neighborhoods in between stops. THESE NEIGHBORHOODS AND THE TIMES FOR THESE NEIGHBORHOODS ARE NOT SET IN STONE! The tentative schedule is as follows:
- From 8:30am to 9:30am: Chestnut/Marion/Towpath neighborhoods, Deming Way, Boutwell and Forest neighborhoods, Pouliot neighborhood, Shawsheen Ave and Nichols/Fairmeadow neighborhood
- From 10:15am to 11am: Main St, Plaza, Adams and Parker, Fairview, Lowell, Woburn to Wildwood to Federal to Lawrence, North and High
- From 11:45am to 12:45pm: Lucaya/Freeport neighborhood, Gowing neighborhood, Hathaway/Sheridan/Chapman/Evans/Marie neighborhoods, Fiorenza, Ashwood
- From 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm: Arlene/Ella/Dorothy neighborhood, Biggar/Ring neighborhood, Evergreen, Cunningham, Faulkner, Marjorie/Winter neighborhood, Harvard/Brattle, St Paul/Cary/Seneca/Garden/Fay neighborhood, Agostino

In The Community: The Boston Metro Hi Railers Club will hold its 14th Semiannual Open House from 10am to 4pm, at 5 Waltham Street in Wilmington. Many of the 100+ engines and 200 passenger and freight cars will be on displayed and operating. Admission is $10 per family, $5 for single adults, and children under 10 for free when accompanied by an adult. Refreshments will be available. Learn more HERE.
In The Community: The Ahern Family Charitable Foundation will host its 14th Annual Army-Navy Football Luncheon fundraiser from 2pm to 6pm at the Scoreboard Sports Bar & Grill in Woburn. Proceeds from the luncheon will support Massachusetts children of fallen and deployed troops this holiday season through Operation Santa-Massachusetts, a program created in partnership with the Military Friends Foundation. Attendees of the event will watch the 118th playing of the Army-Navy Football game across nearly 50 HDTVs in the newly renovated Scoreboard Sports Bar & Grill. When they aren’t watching the traditional American rivalry play out, guests will enjoy a buffet lunch, raffles, and silent and live auction. Learn more HERE.
In The Community: 6th, 7th and 8th grade students living in Wilmington are invited to join the Wilmington Youth Center and enjoy being part of a community that offers a safe place to hang out with your friends and have fun! The Wilmington Youth Center, located inside Villanova Hall (126 Middlesex Avenue), will be open every Saturday night, from 7pm to 9:30pm, from November 25, 2017 to March 17, 2018. Registration costs $40 per child or $80 per family. Registrations will be accepted on Saturday nights during the season. Learn more HERE.
In The Community: The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library’s Book Store Next Door (183 Middlesex Avenue) is open from 10am to 4pm. All books are $2 or less! Every penny of every sale benefits the Wilmington Memorial Library.
