WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Recreation Department has several exciting programs starting soon! If you have any questions or would like to register for any of our programs, please stop by Town Hall Room 8 or call 978-658-4270. The Rec. Department has something for everyone! Here’s a brief spotlight of a few programs that are starting right around the corner:
Jurassic Junior (Grades 1 – 5): In this program, your child will become a paleontologist and will discover what the world was like when dinosaurs roamed the Earth! Students will learn the characteristics of different kinds of dinosaurs, what they ate and how we believe they became extinct. Additionally, the children will examine real fossils, how they were extracted and how they were made. This is an engaging activity for the curious young mind! Classes are on Monday afternoons from 4 – 5 p.m., November 6 – December 4. Cost is $85.
Babysitter Training (Ages 11 & up): This class will teach the necessary skills to begin a babysitting career. Topics that will be covered will be infant and toddler care, handling bedtime issues, basic first aid, interviewing skills, and more. This class will be held on Saturday, November 18 from 9:15 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. Cost is $45.
Referee Clinic (Ages 15 – Adult): Do you enjoy basketball? Are you looking for a different perspective on the game? We are looking for several new referees to join our team of officials for the youth WRBL league! By attending this class which is taught by an experienced, Certified Basketball Referee, you will be prepared to work the floor and blow your whistle while guiding young players in the popular sport of basketball! All our referees earn an hourly wage or Community Service hours while supporting the youth of our town. No previous experience necessary! This clinic is required for all new referees, and will be held on Tuesdays, November 7 & 14 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Cost is FREE.
Gingerbread People (Grades 2 – 6): Get in the holiday spirit! In this hands-on class, students will make individual works of edible art! Students will learn how to make dough and shape it into gingerbread people, all about royal icing, and how to use a pastry bag. Each cookie will be 5″ – 6″ tall, can be eaten or used as a decoration. Each student will go home with 2 – 3 completed Gingerbread people. This class will be held on Wednesday, December 6 from 4 – 6 p.m. Cost is $42.
