**IMPORTANT NOTE: It’s not mentioned in the obituary, but I’m told by a family friend that Mr. Zukas was a longtime former Wilmington resident. His wife, Bridget, taught for Wilmington Public Schools and served on the Wilmington School Committee. **
MOORESVILLE, NC — Mr. Joseph G. Zukas, age 85 of Mooresville, NC, passed away on September 8, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles Zukas, mother Domecele (Kuncevich) Zukas, sister Martha Miceli, brother William Zukas, and brother John Zukas. He was also preceded in death by his wife of forty-two years, Bridget Zukas. He is survived by sisters Helen Sliski, Anna Zukas, and Dorothy Carter; brother Paul Zukas; daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Christopher Conley, Mooresville, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph M. and Heidi Zukas, Peoria, AZ; and six grandchildren, Brandon Zukas and Maura, Rose, Krista, Sloane, and Vera Conley.
Mr. Zukas was born in Cambridge, MA on August 13, 1932 and was of Lithuanian descent. He was a member of St Therese Catholic Church, and enjoyed spending his time watching the Red Sox and playing with his grandchildren. Mr. Zukas was a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology and Northeastern University, and held Associates and Bachelors degrees in Engineering. He was a talented electrical engineer who worked in the defense program at Raytheon for forty years, and was also a veteran of the U.S. Army who served during the Korean War.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 12 at 11:00am at St Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville, NC, with Father Mark Lawlor officiating. The family is to receive friends on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Therese Catholic Church, 217 Brawley School Road, Mooresville, NC 28117. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the family of Mr. Zukas.
