OBITUARY: Georgia “Jean” (Douvris) George, 92

WOBURN, MA — Georgia “Jean” (Douvris) George, 92, a longtime resident of Wilmington, passed away on Saturday morning, August 26. She was the loving wife of the late John George who died in 2014.

Born and raised in Woburn, “Jean” as she was known to her friends and family, was the daughter of the late William, and the late Stavroula (Poulopoulos) Douvris. Jean was an active member of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Woburn, and she volunteered with the “Office Angles” group at the church.

Jean worked for many years in the insurance industry. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Acme Visible Company.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, the late Peter George. Jean is survived by her daughter, Elaine George of Malden; one granddaughter, Anastasia Morris, one great granddaughter, Ariana Morris, both of Delaware. Jean was the sister of Dorothy (Douvris) Williams of Arlington, the late Peter Douvris, the late Elizabeth Harrison, the late Julia Rodakis, and the late Charles Douvris. She is also survived by her “Koumbari,” Jean Providakes and her husband Father Harry Providakes of Lynnfield.

A funeral service will be held at the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Ave., Woburn on Tuesday, August 29 at 11:00 am, followed by burial at the Woodbrook Cemetery in Woburn. Visiting hours will be at the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd., Woburn on Monday evening from 4-6 pm. Contributions in Jean’s memory may be made to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, 70 Montvale Ave., Woburn, MA 01801.
