WHS SOFTBALL: Moran’s Arm, Horgan’s Bat Helps Wildcats Edge Reading

WILMINGTON, MA — The WHS Varsity Softball team defeated Reading High, 5-4, on Monday, May 8 in Reading.

The Wildcats got the scoring started in the second inning courtesy of a Morgan McLaughlin RBI single. The Rockets responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning thanks, in large part, to an error and the inability to turn a double play. Wilmington would later score on an RBI single from Adele Burton and then a 2-run homer by Shannon Horgan.  Reading was unable to match Wilmington offensively, scoring only one run after the second inning.

Wilmington starting pitcher Ally Moran got the win, striking out 10.  She got stronger as the game went on, registering 6 strikeouts in the last 3 innings.

Wilmington played well defensively, with center fielder Kayla Bourrell making a phenomenal catch.

UP NEXT: The Wildcats (7-3) next play Melrose High on Wednesday, May 10 at 6pm at Town Park.
