WILMINGTON, MA — The WHS Varsity Softball team lost 9-2 to Arlington High on Wednesday, May 3 in Arlington.
The Wildcats fell behind early, with Arlington scoring two runs in the first off of four walks and an error. Wilmington tied things up in the fourth inning, but fell behind again in the fifth and never recovered. Overall, Wilmington pitching allowed more than 10 walks and several hits batsmen.
Shannon Horgan (double, RBI) led the offense for Wilmington.
The following day, team bounced back in a big way, defeating Winchester High, 13-2, on Thursday, May 4 in Winchester.
Wilmington’s Gina Brunetto got her first start of the season, allowing two runs on one hit over three innings. Ally Moran came on in relief to pitch a scoreless four innings.
Moran (3-4, triple, double, 3 RBI) and Morgan McLaughlin (triple, RBI) led the Wildcats offensively. Antonia Kieran hit the ball hard and had 2 RBI. Chloe Leblanc recorded her first varsity hit of the season.
