Wilmington Youth Soccer’s Latest In-Town Game Summaries (April 29)

WILMINGTON, MA — Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Saturday, April 29, 2017.

Boys Kinder Games:

Houston Dynamo vs. Chicago Fire

The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game.  The Chicago Fire led by Max Brugel and Cameron Ismey got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Sean Marazi and Andrew Poyant led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Michael Defilippo, Lucas Madden, and Cameron White kept the action going.

The Houston Dynamo was impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Henry Borgen, Alexander Dimitriadis, and Anthony Graziano leading to goals by Bobby King and Lucas Pereira. The midfield showcased their skills today with Joseph Lane and Robert Miller keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game; while the defensive team of Jayden Anderson and Nikolas Dordovic made this game close.

LA Galaxy vs. New England Revolution

The air was full of excitement, as the much-anticipated match between LA Galaxy and New England Revolution commenced. Fantastic ball skills were displayed by Jacob Schoenholtz and Logan Lopes, resulting in goals by Tyler Hally and Peter Douzepis. The midfield and defensive play of Tony Lanzi and Griffin Miner kept the HOMETEAM in excellent shape. The crowd roared to their feet when John Hanson and Mason DeRose made some spectacular saves.

DC United vs Portland Timbers

D.C United’s defensive stand, led by Christopher Gattineri, not only struck fear in the Portland Timbers, but will be feared by future opponents as well. It was this team defense that led to counter attacks by Thomas McGagh, ultimately leading to goals scored by Jaxon Jones, Ethan Hunt and Michael Belanger

Girls Kinder Games:

Portland Thorns vs. Sky Blue FC

The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game. The PORTLAND THORNS led by Mikayla Field, Sophia Fiore, Adriana Ientile, Callie Lamarche, Taylor O’Connell, Ashley Spirito, and Abigail Templeton got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Mikayla Field, Sophia Fiore, Adriana Ientile and Taylor O’Connell   led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Callie Lamarche, Ashley Spirito, and Abigail Templeton,  kept the action going.

Washington Spirit vs. Houston Dash

Proving they were also World Cup Competitors Ashley Anderson, Charlotte Doucette and Ava Zella scored for the Houston Dash in this hard fought game. Katherine McGrath and Olivia Zella added the offensive punch and Kiera Barry held up the defense. It was an outstanding team effort by everyone.

Boston Breakers vs NC Courage

Nobody stayed home for this action packed game. The Boston Breakers Eliana Goldstein, Leah Tucci, Marley White, and Julia Zaya scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Isabella Digiovanni and Emma Spencer set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Gia Cabral and Emelia Roya provided great protection for the Breakers.

FC Kansas City vs Seattle Reign

The air was full of excitement, as the much-anticipated match between FC Kansas City and Seattle Reign commenced. Fantastic ball skill were displayed by Ava Boyd resulting in goals by Riley Lopez, Morgan Mather and Caitlin Barrett. The midfield and defensive play of Addison Scott and Morgan DiGiovanni kept the FC Kansas City in excellent shape. The crowd roared to their feet when Kate Haggerty made some spectacular saves.

Boys Grade 1 Games:

Houston Dynamo vs Columbus Crew

On the other side of the ball for the Houston Dynamos was an incredible performance by Matthew Lawler, Christopher Cali, Dante DiGiovanni, Ryan Hudd, Sanjeev Puvanendrakumar, and Tommy Demers! Goals scored by Matthew Lawler and two by Sanjeev Puvanendrakumar–got the Houston Dynamos on the board. With a rock solid defensive stand led by Ryan Hudd and Tommy Demers, the Houston Dynamos thwarted countless skilled attacks from the other team. The hustle, endurance, and ball handling of Dante DiGiovanni and Christopher Cali could only be classified as awesome.

D.C. United vs New York Red Bulls

The New York Red Bulls would not back down from this back and forth match. Goals by Gabriel Juliano, Charlie Chioccariello and Connor Jamieson brought the crowd to a frenzy. A spectacular display of defensive skills was shown by Marcus Dawson, Arnev Dwivedi and Bode MacKenzie.  In addition, the midfield play of Ronan Oshea , Marcus Dawson and Colin Finn kept constant pressure on the opponent’s net.

Chicago Fire vs Houston Dynamo

One could only believe the silence of the crowd was due to the fantastic ball skills of Andrew Lipsanopoulos and Bijon Pourshadi. However it did not take long for the crowd to cheer as goals were scored by Griffin Crowe and Spencer Walker. The Chicago Fire’s defensive stand made by Jacob Afthim and Daniel Finn could only be viewed as heroic.

Girls Grade 1 Games:

Houston Dash vs. Portland Thorns

The crowd was kept on the edge of their seats this week as the HOUSTON DASH, led by the offensive skills of Caroline Broussard, and Sarah Najarian resulted in scoring opportunities by Sophia Kulsa, Emily Laquidara and Abby O’Donoghue. The defense was not to be left out of this one either as Georgia Hanson and Emily Quamme kept the ball out of their zone for much of the game.

Boys Grade 2 Games:

New York Red Bulls vs. New England Revolution

Nobody stayed home for this action packed game.  The Red Bull’s Preston Hunt, Jack Morin and Gavin Poirier scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats.  Outstanding offense by Richard Holland, Nate Anderson, Jonathan Malley and Max Bagtaz set up many scoring chances.  The flawless defense of Jackson Hegarty, Jake Driscoll, Joe Mytych and Ethan Laconte provided great protection for their goal keepers, Jack Morin and Jackson Hegarty.

Another exciting afternoon for the Revolution as they visited the always tough NY Red Bulls. From the opening whistle, the nonstop action was packed with excitement as the Revolution midfield of Zach Atwater, Daniel D’Agusta, Cooper Holleran pressured and attacked the Red Bulls.  On the counter, the tough defense line of Riley Caples, Joshua Nille, Finn Hadden and Dennis Reppuci handled the Red Bulls with ease and helped Kyle Price keep a clean sheet in net.  The Revs got on the score board with a fabulous team build up from the tough defensive line that ended with a scramble in the box with Cole Falk and Cameron Molina combining to put the Revolution on the score board.

Chicago Fire vs. Houston Dynamo

Top-notch play kept people watching this one. Excellent offensive plays by Dillan Roberts, Jack Cronin, Joey Constantino, Aiden O’Hearn, and Thomas Murphy applied heavy pressure causing the Houston Dynamo to back pedal.

Defensive positioning by Michael O’Hearn, Aiden Harris, Chase Levesque, and Collin Holman fended off any threat that came through making it tough for the Houston Dynamo.  Collin Holman and Chase Levesque also played a great game in net, keeping the game in hand.

The Houston Dynamo led by Gino Mattuchio, Jack Mahnken, Nolan White and Jackson Griffith got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Ryan Archer, Patrick Moriarty, Jake Arsenault, and Antonio Braga led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Cael Considine, Gustavo DaSilva, Devin DeGennaro, and Benjamin Harris kept the action going. 

Girls Grade 2 Games:

Boston Breakers vs. Houston Dash

The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game between the Boston Breaker and the Houston Dash. One could only believe the silence of the crowd was due to the fantastic ball skills of Megan Smith and Hailey Reguera. However it did not take long for the crowd to cheer as goals were scored by Charlotte Warren, Emma Nolan, Heidi Ferrer and Abbi Engvaldsen. The Boston Breakers defensive stand made by Bailey O’Connor, Celina Vo and Angelina Vo could only be viewed as heroic. 

Seattle Reign vs. Portland Thorns

In what could be confused as a World Cup match, the Seattle Reign started off strong with great offense pressure from Ellie Gills, Isabella Goldstein and Emma Tarin. Coupled with steel-like defense of Lyla Dickinson, Molly Lovell, Kaetlyn Costello and Emma Callahan, their efforts made for an incredible game. Anna Heiplik scored for the Reign, while the Hope Solo like effort of Claire Connolly provided solid goal-tending to keep her team alive.
