OBITUARY: Rev. Francis O’Hara, 88

PLYMOUTH, MA — Reverend Francis Anthony O’Hara, age 88, a much loved Catholic Priest serving the Boston Diocese’s, died peacefully at the Plymouth Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on March 27th, 2017 following a long illness.

Born in Boston, MA on June 5, 1929, he was a son of the late Francis A. and Martina E. (Shelley) O’Hara. He was raised in Wilmington and Wakefield, and was educated in Wakefield, MA, a graduate of Wakefield High School.

He entered the St. John’s Seminary in Brighton where eight years later he was ordained a Catholic Priest in the Archdiocese’s of Boston. Fr. O’Hara served 3 years at St. Anthony’s in Cohasset where his ministry began in 1956, then for 13 Years at St. Mary’s Church in Dedham, 5 years at St. Raphael’s in W. Medford, and 21 years at St. Mary’s Parish in Plymouth where he served as Pastor until his retirement.

He was an avid golfer for over 25 years and enjoyed walking outdoors as a few of his favorite past times. He moved to Plymouth in the 1960’s previously residing in Foxboro, Dedham, and Falmouth where he enjoyed life with his family.

Fr. O’Hara was the loving brother of Andrew J. O’Hara of Bristol, NH, Corinne Ann O’Hara and Eileen Faith O’Hara both of Plymouth. He was predeceased by his brothers Leonard O’Hara and Ronald J. O’Hara, as well as his sisters Martina E. Grady and Grace M. O’Hara. He also leaves 14 nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 313 Court St., Plymouth where he will lay in repose. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Plymouth. Donations in his memory may be made to the St. Mary’s Church, 313 Court St., Plymouth, MA 02360.
