VIDEO: School Committee Candidate Sabrina Hewitt Discusses Her Campaign with WCTV

WILMINGTON, MA — Town Moderator Robert Peterson Jr. recently interviewed Wilmington School Committee candidate Sabrina Hewitt as part of WCTV’s 2017 Candidate Conversations series.

Hewitt, who has lived in Wilmington nearly her entire life, is looking to make a difference in the community.

“My dad always told me, ‘if you’re going to complain about something, do something about it’,” recalled Hewitt.  “You can’t make a difference by doing nothing.”

Hewitt, who has some professional experience working with troubled teens, sas State Rep. Jim Miceli, a family friend, encouraged her to run for School Committee.

Hewitt believes the current Superintendent vacancy is the biggest issue confronting the school committee.

The next Superintendent, according to Hewitt, must share the values and beliefs of the town, while always acting in the best interest of the students and teachers.

Hewitt points to the hiring of the superintendent and monitoring the school district’s budget as the most important roles of the School Committee.

“The students need the tools they need to learn,” said Hewitt. “Special Education needs to be supported.  Each child should be given an equal opportunity to flourish.”

Hewitt says she hasn’t done too much campaigning yet, aside from collecting signatures at Market Basket and media interviews, but she looks forward to getting to meet more voters.
