QUESTION: Why are you running for School Committee? Why do you feel you’re qualified for the position?
ANSWER: I am running for School Committee for multiple reasons. I have a niece and nephew in the school system, as well as friends who have special needs who have shared their concerns with me. I want to make sure that students are given the materials they need, and teachers are treated with the respect their positions have earned them. I also want to assure that children with special needs, such as autism, are given all the tools they need to succeed and become the best persons they can be. I also wish to speak about bullying and make sure it is treated seriously and not brushed aside, with so many ways a child can be bullied it is a serious situation. Another concern I have is LGBT youth in our schools, they are children, and deserve to feel safe, and that they have a place they can learn without fear. These are the concerns closest to my heart and the main reasons I wish to run.
As far as my qualifications, I have worked in group homes with troubled teens and know some of the things they deal with. I was trained in deescalation, and taught ways to help troubled teens become the best people they can. I have 8 years of human services experience as well, and although not all of it was with children, I learned much of how best to help those who need assistance the most, and how to best help them get it, Also, I care, and I am very friendly, as such I have met many different people and have helped them with what they need. It is something I have always been drawn to do. I hope this helps, and I truly hope I can work on the Committee to help the children and teachers of the Town of Wilmington succeed.
