BOSTON, MA – The Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras will present “BYSO On Parade,” featuring all 494 young musicians, on Sunday, March 12 at 3pm at Symphony Hall (301 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston). 1 of those 494 young musicians is 16-year-old violinist Lailoo Perriello.
Christopher Tarjan, host and narrator, will walk concertgoers through the afternoon, introducing audience members to the instruments of the orchestra and what it means to be a performing musician.
The concert will include a performance from each of the BYSO ensembles, highlight the full breadth of groups and their technical ability, and present favorites such as selections from Bizet’s “Carmen,” Bernstein’s “One Hand, One Heart” from “West Side Story,” and Rodgers’ “My Favorite Things” from “The Sound of Music.”
A commissioned work entitled “Common Dance,” composed by brothers Doug and Brad Balliett, BYSO 2001 alumni, will also be performed by one of BYSO’s younger ensembles, Preparatory Winds.
The afternoon will culminate with a performance of Britten’s “A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra” from BYSO’s most advanced orchestra, Boston Youth Symphony, conducted by Federico Cortese.
During this performance, BYSO will also celebrate 20 years of commitment from BYSO Executive Director Catherine Weiskel and the ongoing achievements of Weiskel’s 20 years of leading BYSO.
The performance will run approximately 90 minutes without an intermission and is suitable for children of all ages. Tickets for “BYSO On Parade” are $20 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets may be purchased by calling Symphony Charge at 888-266-1200.
