READING, MA – Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) recently honored 36 students from twelve local elementary schools in Reading, North Reading, Wilmington, and Lynnfield for their winning entries into RMLD’s annual art contest. Award ceremonies were held on February 15th and 16th at RMLD’s office in Reading. Awards were presented by RMLD’s General Manager and members of the Board of Commissioners.
For the contest, third and fourth grade students were asked to design a poster demonstrating their knowledge of electrical safety and energy conservation following lessons based on educational packets provided by RMLD. Students were encouraged to highlight RMLD’s Shred the Peak public education campaign in their artwork; Shred the Peak encourages customers to reduce energy consumption during RMLD’s annual peak demand time, which typically occurs between June and August. When peak demand is predicted, a notification is posted on our website and sent to customers via email and Twitter.
A first, second, and third place winner was selected from each participating school based on the artwork and message. The winning entries will be displayed at RMLD’s office for the remainder of the school year.
A full list of the winners and photos from the award ceremonies may be found on our website at: http://www.rmld.com/community-relations.
