BREAKING NEWS: Bonish Will NOT Seek Re-Election To Wilmington School Committee

WILMINGTON, MA — Ginny Bonish will not be seeking re-election to the Wilmington School Committee this April.  The 2-term incumbent made the announcement to Wilmington Apple on Monday night.

The committee’s second longest tenured member, Bonish has served since 2011.  She currently chairs the committee’s influential Policy Subcommittee and represents the committee on the town’s Facility Master Plan Committee.  Her colleagues have elected her to committee leadership positions, including Vice Chair and Secretary.

According to Bonish, the district’s biggest accomplishment during her tenure was the construction of the new high school.  Bonish got to see the project up close and personal, as a core member of the Wilmington High School 4.0 Campaign Committee and as a member of the Wilmington High School Building Committee.

“It’s time for me to move on to something different,” explained Bonish.  “I’m not ruling out ever coming back to the board, but I just need some time to concentrate on other things.  Right now, it’s time for me to move on.”

Bonish will miss being a member of the committee.

“This is a very bittersweet decision for me.  I really loved serving for six years.  It was a really fulfilling experience,” added Bonish.  “I would recommend it to anyone who has a passion for education.”

Bonish thanked her supporters, fellow committee members and family.  She also offered high praise and admiration to everyone associated with Wilmington Public Schools, saying “she loves them all.”

While she won’t be on the April 22nd ballot vying for one of the two School Committee seats up for grabs, Bonish noted that she’s strongly supporting incumbent Steve Bjork.  She also’s looking forward to learning more about the rest of the candidates in the field.  Pending this Friday’s nomination paper filing deadline, those candidates currently include Sabrina Hewitt, Jesse Fennelly, Kathleen O’Donoghue, Amy Largenton, Rhonda Musikar-Rosner and Jennifer Bryson.
