WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Board of Selectmen gave the green light to several popular annual community events at its meeting on Monday night.
1.) Selectmen approved the request of the Wilmington-Tewksbury Chamber of Commerce to conduct the Town of Wilmington’s 13th Annual Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, September 17, from 10am to 2pm, beginning at Wilmington Community Television (10 Waltham Street).
Vallee noted that “the event attracts many out-of-town runners and running clubs, plus athletes from Wilmington schools and the community.” She cited stats from last year’s successful event — 552 participants, 100 spectators, 24 local businesses with booths, 50 high school student volunteers, and enough proceeds to award scholarships to 5 graduating Wilmington seniors this June.
Selectmen praised Vallee, the Chamber and this particular event, which the Chamber has sponsored for the past 8 years. Vallee assured the board she will continue to work closely with town officials to ensure a safe race for all.
2.) Selectmen approved the request of the Wilmington Recreation Commission to use the Town Common to conduct the Town’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 15 at 2pm. The event is or ages 6 and under. If there’s rain or a poor ground conditions, the event will be held inside the Wilmington Middle School.
