WILMINGTON, MA – The Wilmington School Committee has officially begun the search to find its next permanent Superintendent.
The School Committee held a special workshop meeting on Monday night to begin planning the search, including discussing search criteria, job description, and timeline.
Chair Julie Broussard tjem provided an update to the public at Wednesday’s regularly scheduled School Committee meeting.
The Committee has decided to run the search itself, rather than hire a professional search firm. (Massachusetts Association of School Committees was contracted for the 2014 search that led to the hiring of former Superintendent Mary DeLai.) The Committee is confident they can manage the search, especially since five of its members were part of the search just three years ago. The Committee will receive assistance from the district’s Human Resources Director Ken Storlazzi.
The job posting was published on Wednesday. It can be viewed HERE. Salary is listed at $155,000 to $170,000. Applications are due by March 6. An appointment is expected to be made on or about April 21, with a July 1 starting date. The Committee did note that it does have some flexibility with its current timeline.
The School Committee also voted not to advertise the position with the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents. The advertisement would cost the district $2,400, which members felt was too expensive. Members, instead, will monitor the number of resumes received and, if necessary, reevaluate the decision in a couple of weeks.
The School Committee will next meet to discuss the search’s progress on Monday, February 27 at 7pm in the Wilmington High School library. The public is invited to attend and provide feedback on the proposed process. Additionally, Broussard will provide public updates at every regularly scheduled School Committee meeting until a hiring takes place.
