WILMINGTON, MA – The Middlesex Canal Association invites Wilmington residents to its Winter Meeting on Sunday, February 12 at 1pm at the Middlesex Canal Museum and Visitors’ Center (71 Faulkner Street, Billerica).
The featured speaker will be Charles H. (Chuck) Mower. Mr. Mower is a Master Craftsman, Teacher, Community Activist and Historian from Merrimack, New Hampshire. His talk is entitled “Brick Making Along The Merrimack.” Blessed (and cursed) with a thick layer of glacial clay, communities along the Merrimack established multiple brickyards to satisfy the insatiable construction needs of nearby textile mills and related industries, then sent their products to market on ‘fleets’ of canal boats. Come to hear the who, how, when and where of local brick making.
(NOTE: The above announcement is from the Middlesex Canal Association.)
