Wilmington POLICE LOG (Week of January 15, 2017)

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for the week of Sunday, January 15, 2017.

Sunday, January 15:

  • A gray 2003 Saturn SE L200 struck a tree on Shawsheen Avenue. The driver Sean D. Collins (18, Billerica) was issued citations for reckless operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation , speeding, and failure to wear a seatbelt. (2:21am)
  • Police issued a parking ticket for a handicap parking violation at Market Basket. Operator later provided a valid handicap placard, which they did not remember to put up. Police voiced the ticket. (9:49am)
  • Damage was done to a mailbox on Broad Street. Caller requested an officer to view the damage and for additional patrols. (11:02am)
  • A passerby found a syringe in the crosswalk at Federal Street and Woburn Street. Police located and retrieved needle for destruction. (1:58pm)
  • Police advised a man and his family that the Yentile Farm Recreational Facility on Cross Street was not open yet and sent them on their way. (4:16pm)
  • Water Department responded to a water main break on Shawsheen Avenue. (4:17pm)
  • Police received a report of a  gray 1997 Toyota Avalon were swerving up and down the street striking trash barrels. Vehicle was gone by the time police arrived. (7:31pm)  Police later found some of the involved parties behind Uncle Mickey’s.  Both juveniles’ parents were contacted for pickup. (9:52pm)

Monday, January 16:

  • A citizen was concerned about the pole/gate missing to gain access to the fishing pier at Silver Lake. Police recovered the item from the water. (12:24pm)
  • Ronald A. Greene (38, Medford) was arrested for shoplifting by container switching at Target. (3:30pm)
  • A caller reported she witnesses an assault of a male party in her Avalon apartment building. The suspects fled from the scene in a black Audi sedan in an unknown direction. (3:37pm)
  • A West Street caller reported a scam phone call that stated he had won a $9,000 grant, but needed to provide an iTunes gift card. (3:42pm)
  • A caller reported two dogs were in two separate vehicles in the Market Basket parking lot. Caller was concerned for their well-being. Police responded. 1 vehicle was already  gone. Owner of the other vehicle came out and dog checked OK. (4:33pm)
  • A passerby reported 3 male parties smoking a marijuana in a blue Toyota near Speedway on Main Street. Police responded and detected the odor of marijuana, but no physical evidence located and no actual public consumption observed. Parities were advised to cease activity. (9:40pm)

Tuesday, January 17:

  • Leo M. Leitner (21, Watertown) was arrested for unarmed robbery and a firearm-armed home invasion. Daniel E. Reilly (23, Watertown) was arrested for unarmed robbery. Arianna L. Casterlin (19, Wakefield) was arrested for unarmed robbery. A caller reported 3 individuals entered her Brattle Street home looking for her son. 1 was carrying a firearm. The individuals were described as 2 white males and 1 white female wearing dark hoodies. 1 male had a scraggily beard and the other male and female had their faces covered. Police put a BOLO out on their vehicle. The individuals appear to have been captured quickly, possibly in Watertown. (2:01am)
  • A school van broke down on the 93 North Exit 40 on-ramp. Police responded. School sent second van to transport students. (8:32am)
  • A gray 2011 Honda Accord struck a pole on Federal Street. The RMLD pole was moved slightly. Minor damage to a mailbox. Vehicle towed. Unspecified injury. Citation issued to operator for sending and receiving electronic messages. (9:16am)
  • Police assisted with a motor vehicle lockout in the CVS parking lot. (11:19am)
  • 8 parking citations were given out at the MBTA Parking Lot at Wilmington Center. (11:31am)
  • A Border Avenue resident reported dirt bikes going up and down the road. Bikes were gone by the time police arrived. (2:50pm)
  • An Eleanaor Drive caller reported finding a cup containing dog feces in his mailbox. Caller wanted the incident logged. (6:42pm)

Wednesday, January 18:

  • A gray 2002 Chevy Impala struck a telephone pole and cement pillars on Adams Street.  Unspecified injury. Vehicle towed. (6:37am)
  • A caller reported vehicles were passing school buses at Woburn Street and Eames Street. (8:26am)
  • A walk-in party reported that while at Bank of America on Main Street, a woman began yelling profanities at her and her daughter because of the way she parked in the drive-thru. (12:05pm)
  • 5 parking citations were issued in the MBTA Parking Lot at Wilmington Center. (1:26pm)
  • Fire Department responded to a car fire for a Gray 2011 Chevy Town and Country on 93 North Exit 41 ramp. No injuries noted. (6:18pm)
  • A mother reported her son lost a brown wallet with $30 and a GameStop gift card on January 11 while riding his bicycle from Mink Run to Shawsheen Avenue. (7:10pm)

Thursday, January 19:

  • Police received report of a resident in his Burlington Avenue yard shooting at squirrels with a riffle-style gun. Police advised the resident of the town’s bylaws. (8:04am)
  • A caller reported high school students drove past a stopped school bus on Loumac Road between 7:20pm and 7:30pm. (8:31am)
  • Curtis Allan Hefts (27, Everett) was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. (11:07am)
  • A 4-vehicle crash occurred on Burlington Avenue. Police closed a portion of the street following the accident. Fire Department obtained 6 patient refusals. Only one was transported with an unspecified injury. One of the  operators was issued a written warning for failure to yield to the right of way. All vehicles were towed. (6:52pm)

  • An Arlene Avenue resident reported their front window was just broken, noting a small dark sedan was seen leaving the area at the time. Police responded and confirmed window was broken by a food container that was thrown. Units checked the area, but did not locate anything suspicious. (10:53pm)

Friday, January 20:

  • A green 2004 Toyota Camry struck a pole near Eastern Bank on Main Street. Air bag was deployed. No injuries noted. Vehicle towed. (12:53am)
  • A caller reported a purple mountain bike was located off the side of the bridge on Richmond Street, stuck in a bush near Dunkin Donuts. Police notified DPW. (7:42am)
  • A blue 1999 Ford Ranger and a gray 2009 Toyota Sienna were involved in a minor crash at Triton Car Wash on Main Street. (12:42pm)
  • An individual approached officers at a traffic stop on Molloy Road to advise them of dirt bikes being operated in the area of Molloy and Fairmont. Police checked area and spoke with youths walking home. (1:05pm)
  • Keolis Commuter Services reported receiving a call from a train engineer who witnessed a loose brown dog on the tracks near Lake Street. Animal Control Officer checked tracks and could not located. (1:32pm)
  • A yellow Honda Accord was issued a citation for failure to stop for a school bus on Church Street. (2:26pm)
  • A Shady Lane Drive resident reported a credit card fraud. (2:39pm)
  • A Horseshoe Lane resident reported a man was going through her garage and took off in a white Toyota when she noticed him. Police located the vehicle nearby. Man claimed he thought he was entering his girlfriend’s garage. Police confirmed the mix-up and resident was satisfied. (4:51pm)
  • A black 2014 Ford Fusion and black 2011 Mazda CX7 were involved in a crash near the Salvation Army on Main Street. Both vehicles towed. One individual was transported to the hospital with a leg injury. (6:29pm)
  • A Nichols Street resident  reported his house was struck with paintballs.  Police checked the area and saw nothing suspicious. (11:53pm)

Saturday, January 21:

  • A blue 2001 Ford Explorer struck a light pole at Shawsheen Avenue and Lake Street. Police notified Public Buildings. (5:17am)
  • A Lawrence Street caller reported their house was struck by paintballs sometime overnight. (9:24am)
  • Police later responded and found three additional homes on Lawrence Street that were struck by paintballs. (12:08pm, 12:11pm, 12:12pm)
  • A caller reported extra patrols overnight on Wilton Drive due to scratches on his vehicle and gas possibly being siphoned from his vehicle. (12:59pm)
  • An Adams Street homeowner reported finding a BB hole in her front window. The hole occurred sometime over the past week. (1:39pm)
  • A caller reported empty glass bottles in the courts at the Shawsheen School. One bottle was shattered. (4:38pm)
  • Ujjwal Bistsa (33, Brooklyn, NY) was issued a summons for the unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding. (5:31pm)
  • A walk-in party reported she struck a bicyclist at Bond Street and Shawsheen Avenue with her Ford Explorer. (7:28pm)
  • Charles A. Quinton (54, Wilmington) was issued a summons for having an uninsured motor vehicle and the unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. (9:59pm)
  • Mario G. Porrata (34, Roxbury) was placed in protective custody. (10:04pm)
  • Police received report of 6 juveniles playing basketball in the high school outdoor court, with the lights off and trash on the court. Youth were leaving as police arrived. (11:35pm)
  • Michael McCormack (23, Billerica) was arrested for OUI Liquor, Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle, Marked Lanes Violation, and Speeding. His blue 2001 Volkswagen Jetta went through a guard rail on Shawsheen Avenue and wound up on its roof in a gulley. (11:43pm)
