WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Public Schools is holding an important workshop for parents — “Navigating The Cyber World” — on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 6:30pm in the Wilmington Middle School Auditorium.
The workshop will review the challenges and dangerous situations that children and teens may face when using the Internet, social media and smart phones. Attendees will learn about the latest popular apps, social media sites and programs used by youth online. The issues and possible consequences from cyber bullying, sexting and revealing identifying information to strangers will be explored.
The event is free of charge thanks to Wilmington’s membership in the Middlesex Partnerships for Youth, Inc. (MYP), a non-profit organization which closely partners with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. The MYP has been providing training, fostering collaboration, and developing programs to increase the health and safety of students in Wilmington and the rest of Middlesex County for the past 20 years.
Wilmington Middle School students in Grades 7 and 8 received an age appropriate presentation on cyber safety from the MYP on Tuesday, January 24. Their parents, and parents of Wilmington students that use electronic devices to access the internet, are strongly encouraged to attend the January 31st workshop.
