Boston Celtics Player To Visit Wilmington Middle School TODAY For Anti-Bullying Assembly

WILMINGTON, MA — Thanks to the generosity of one Wilmington family, every student at the Wilmington Middle School will get to meet a player from the Boston Celtics this Thursday, January 26.

The yet-to-be-revealed player and other “Celtics VIPs” will be featured in a school-wide assembly in the gymnasium from 10:45am to 11:30am.  The player will share an anti-bullying message, highlighting the importance of building a positive and inclusive school culture.

The visit is courtesy of the Dave and Candy Erickson, season ticket holders who won the player experience in an auction at the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation Gala at the Museum of Fine Arts in October.

Dave and Candy’s son, AJ, is a 6th grade student at the Middle School.

Rather than have the player accompany AJ to a few of his classes, or meet with a small group of his friends, Dave and Candy choose the option that would involve the whole student body.

“My wife and I wanted to give back to this community since this town has been so great to us,” sayid Dave Erickson, owner of AJ’s Kitchen in Wilmington.”We wanted to make sure to share this experience with the entire school.  It’s not every day a professional athlete visits the school.”

“I would like to publicly thank the Erickson family,” announced Interim Superintendent Joanne Benton at Wednesday night’s School Committee Meeting.  “I’m hearing that all the kids are so excited for this visit.”

“I would like to thank the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation for sponsoring this event” added Interim Middle School Principal Kevin Welch in an announcement to parents.  “I encourage all of our students to show their Celtic pride and wear their green in honor of this special event.”
